jealous

well since we've given dad his birthday/christmas gift, i can finally mention it here. this thing is so freakin cool.
hands off
we also got the travel kit and a 256 mg sd card. i'm so jealous. i remember when i bought my palm III and dad demeaned it as some exorbant worthless tech toy. he's now on his third palm. psh.

i figure just as a public service measure, i should get one. it might keep me from making phone calls to friends that start with "yo...so i think i'm at the corner of ___ st and ___ st. how does mapquest say to get to ____?"

small town. big hair

got coopted into attending an arts fundraiser tonight (mom's on the arts council and gave me a free ticket). it's been a while since i've been at an event with free alcohol. i tried not to find fault with the execution of the event, but there were some serious oversights (but an overall quite decent event). it was a shag/disco evening. i had a few runins - one with some guy who did the wraparound arm slide, when passing through. i looked to see how hot the chick was that touched me...only to be disappointed that it was some odd guy. alas.

saw some people i recognized from way back in the day. one my mom knew and had taught in sunday school. i mentioned that she was there to moms (mom hadn't left yet). i pointed her out to mom. mom didn't recogize her. now i feel i must somehow prove that the girl is the girl i said it was.

when in line for a drink, some middle aged lady turned to me and started speaking quite loudly about me looking like someone. she then grabbed my facial hair and started yelling "cubs." i really wanted a drink then.

i hadn't spent that amount of time on a dance floor in a while. yes, lc...i did the spotlight.

sorta helpful. sorta sad.

i went by the local chain bookstore. hot time on a friday night. once there i had a penchant for something interesting with a global bent. i figured i'd pick up the latest copy of the economist. it'd be nice to be able to read all the articles and do so not staring at a monitor. after a couple of trips up and down the walls of magazines without spotting a copy, i asked an employee for help. when i asked, it was clear she'd never heard of it. she told me to keep looking and if i didn't find it to check to see if they sell it with the folks up front.

i still didn't find it so i went to the employees behind the counter. the first one i talked to asked if they had "the economist." she asked if it was a book or what. i said it was a periodical. she was like...so is it a magazine or a book? the other worker then typed it in and eventually found it. it was to be in the computer/business section. i did not locate a copy. i was later asked if i found it. i said no. they then tried to help but didn't find it either.

i then found a couple copies of foreign policy which interested me, but after some consideration i figured i'd spend my money on something else. as it was closing time, i went to the classics section. i considered a few and grabbed a book that i've wanted to read for sometime - a catcher in the rye.

hopefully you will not soon learn my middle name.

don't call it a comeback

one post thrill

clearly i've not been posting as regularly. it's partially due to being tired and work, but things have also been kinda blasé. or at least that's my excuse. maybe it's because i haven't travelled in some time. when i haven't i get a bit tense. combine that with my parents being in greece/turkey...maybe things just don't seem as cool in comparison. that's pretty stupid. suck it up, punk.

i blame jack black, bocephus, and snoop

for me not getting my work done. that game was just ridiculous. indy put 35 points up on the vaunted tb defense in the 2nd half. all this just means the panthers are up 2 in the division. yep.

yes i know i'm behind in my bloggin. shake your fist at the aforementioned culprits and tell them you'll never be hungry again.

elcheapomachines

anyone gotten a comp from emachines lately? i'm looking for a cheap computer that doesn't include a celeron. i'd rather have xp professional, but these specs seem pretty good for $720.

tigers lose to new york

while not normally a surprise, this one didn't take place at yankee stadium and involved snipers.

update: per "request," for privacy advocates, here's a link that explains how to get around having a personal registration.

holy stuff

i've seen the results of others' use of "great stuff" many times, but i've never use it for my own project before. (i was finally getting around to sealing around the door into the attic from my closet.)

word to the wise: heed the warnings. don't use it without these:
hands up
it tricks you. it feels slimy like soap but things change quickly. there's a reason why "How do I get foam off my skin?" is the number 1 question on the faq. i tried gasoline, turpentine, and of course soap and water. turpentine seem mildly effective. (it at least let me slide my hands together.) i eventually just stuck paper towels around my hand so i could open doors. once it dried i used a nail file on my hands to get off some more.

i went back to make a few touchups. i got some in my hair. at least by this time, i'd read the website. feel free to imagine me putting my hair into a bottle of nail polish remover.
