geeky
from my cold dead carpal tunnel hands - the $50 used ibook sale went off without a hitch.| local coverage
and now some old news:
and now some old news:
- the king is a pimp - somehow i missed some of the lyrics...like "the breasts they grown on trees." it's also nice to see that they can actually do some scholarly research at that place.
- puns make the man - "You don't run up to a hot tub full of beautiful women and talk about Mark Twain's trip to the Holy Land."nice little interview with richard from beauty and the geek.
typing into the wind
i don't know what happened to all the comments. i think i'll switch to blogger's system but allow anonymous comments. now time to try out this photo thing.
anyone think they can guess (other than like "glass with red liquid") what the image is? i should likely add a copyright notice on future photos.

you read this?
so i installed office:mac today. i'd held off for so long. i've tried openoffice, abiword, neooffice/j, iwork, and more but finally installed it. (59.99 made it much more palatable.) when i installed it, the fonts in safari went all screwy - until i quit/reopened it. for some reason, this made me want to see if blogger made the user interface any better for safari. so i logged in. not really - though there is something about uploading photos that i'll investigate later.
i've been watching this peter jennings: reporter thing. i still find it crazy that a guy who didn't graduate high school was made a national news anchor at my age. of course he was soon fired. growing up i tended to watch brokaw, but every now and then i'd watch abc and think "don't sleep on pete."
does anyone else think alton brown is one of the coolest people on tv?
a friend of mine invited me to her birthday party. i'd be all for it, but it's just that i feel like i'm there whenever she asks - but she acts like it's some intense effort to do anything i suggest. (she's never been to where i live - but i've been to where she lives quite regularly.) that said - i expect to be there. that's what friends do.
remember when eddy murphy was funny?
i'm facing yet another interminable, exhausting emasculation, and i'm not sure if i can take it. it's likely the cause of the angst which has me searching for things to do. i'm kinda twitching. i have half a mind to just split.
right now i think a true partner would be rather good for me - and a poor deal for them.

where does the time go
for a while i've wanted to just keep track of what i read in a day. back when this space was somewhat witty and filled with links to interesting stories, i read a ridiculous amount of stuff daily. now that it's boring and unattended (and i'm employed), i don't read near as much. even so, i wondered how much i read in an average day. so with gmail's wonderful conversation setup, i just regularly pasted in urls as i went throughout the day. at work, at home, etc. just copy/paste a few urls and send.
the rules: i had to read the entire article. if it was boring and i skimmed it, i didn't include it. i did not include blogs (well only one), and i didn't include stuff i read on shopping sites like amazon. i also did not include message boards or the like.
the following are the list for one day:

we need help
jon stewart is my hero. i'm one of those crazy political types, but i'm one of the cynical ones. this persuasion has led me to watch crossfire (when i have access to cnn), but it also leads me to end up yelling at the hosts' retarded posturing and bluster.
under the pretense of hawking his new book, jon spent his entire time attacking the hosts for their "politcal hackery." it's fun to watch tucker's face as it dawns on him that jon is not joking.

a snippet:
STEWART: In many ways, it's funny. And I made a special effort to come on the show today, because I have privately, amongst my friends and also in occasional newspapers and television shows, mentioned this show as being bad.watch the video: ifilm|qt || read the transcript
(LAUGHTER)
BEGALA: We have noticed.
STEWART: And I wanted to -- I felt that that wasn't fair and I should come here and tell you that I don't -- it's not so much that it's bad, as it's hurting America.
pleasantly uneventful
this weekend so far is not something that would give me something to talk about - except that's what i want to do. friday i relaxed after a seemingly short week at work. i had no plans - and it felt good. i looked through my roommate's dvd collection for something i hadn't seen. i chose rules of attraction. i followed it up with a $5.50 bin pick. fyi: my collection | our "bookshelf" [big] [small]
roommate left for the weekend. after talking online to some friends for a while, i decided to go check out team america. (review: fuck yeah!) decided to grab a mcchicken - but was told that they were closed. i was wondering why they would talk to me over the drive-through intercom if they were closed so i asked them when they closed. the response was midnight. according to my watch it was 11:58. i asked them what time it was. she said midnight. i don't think i'll be back for a while.
baseball was rained out, and i fell asleep on the couch watching tv.
i woke up and eventually planned to have my weekly bowl of rain bran crunch. however, a few smell tests later of the milk, i decided against it. a better option emerged - omelette. i do like american cheese on my omelettes, but i didn't have any. i went with a six egg omelette with provolone and a little hard salami. 'twas rather good. however, i think i had a beyĆ³nce moment. when i was eating it i realized that i had bought the food, i had cooked it on a pan i'd bought, with gas i pay for. i'd eaten it on a plate i bought, with a fork i bought (and used the pepper grinder i'd bought). i had even washed it down with a large glass of tropicana premium in a glass i'd bought. i was alone eating my stuff my way. it was a damn good moment.
however, that moment has made me think about its legitimacy. i am not where i am without help from a lot of people. probably my primary source of support is dealing with metastatic breast cancer, and while i am cool with being alone (there is an i in "team america"), it would be nice to share my spoiled milk sometimes. maybe i'll back up kim...
despite this melodramatic bull, i followed it up with a similar feeling at dinner. i considered good ole mac and cheese, but with no milk - i went back to penne and marinara. i guess having a roommate who brought nothing kitchen related does lend itself to having this whole mr. independent feeling regularly.
and once again i hate blogger on the mac. i have like 20 links to go back and put in by hand. quite annoying.
